Arsenal legend Thierry Henry spoke on Sky Sports’ The Football Show about Gunners star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s future at the club.
The Gabonese international has arguably been Arsenal’s best player this season, scoring 20 goals in all competitions; 17 of which have come in the Premier League.
Aubameyang will enter the final year of his contract at the Emirates this summer and his future is still up in the air.
The former Dortmund man will not be short of suitors if he decides to move on this summer and Arsenal fans are dreading the prospect of him leaving.
Speaking about Aubameyang, Henry claimed that he would love the player to stay, but admitted that he can’t be the one to give him advice after he left the Gunners himself when they needed him the most.
He said: ” Everybody will do what they have to do. How am I going to tell someone to stay when I left? As an Arsenal fan, you want him to stay, but as a football player, he will assess the situation with his family, with his dad who I know also and will see what’s the best for them.”
” I don’t know what’s in his head and where he wants to go, but all I know is that we are definitely going to miss his goals if he does leave. He does score goals and if you take the goals of Aubameyang away, it’s a tough one.”
The last thing Mikel Arteta would want ahead of his first season in charge, is to have to the headache of finding a replacement for Aubameyang.
If the forward decides against extending his contract, Arsenal will have to sell him to avoid losing him for free next season. But could that be a risk worth taking in this difficult window? Most Arsenal fans will agree.
