Tottenham Hotspur beat Liverpool 4-1 at Wembley yesterday, with Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen given new roles.

Thierry Henry assistant manager of Belgium looks on prior to the FIFA 2018 World Cup Qualifier between Belgium and Gibraltar at Stade Maurice Dufrasne on August 31, 2017 in Liege, Belgium.

Thierry Henry has told Sky Sports, during their coverage of Tottenham Hotspur’s match against Liverpool, that he felt Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli were very impressive yesterday, albeit in a very different way to usual.

Alli and Eriksen started for Spurs against Liverpool, but they were required to play in deeper roles than usual against the Reds.

Eriksen and Alli were handed more defensive responsibility than usual, with Mauricio Pochettino only having a limited number of options available to him in midfield.

And the pair impressed, as Spurs managed to pick up a 4-1 victory over Jurgen Klopp’s men.

“They had a different game to what they usually do. It’s so hard playing in the middle in a 3-5-2, but Dele Alli and Eriksen were superb,” Henry said.

“They showed us a different side of Tottenham. It’s like what Chelsea did to Spurs here – ‘come on and break us down’.”

Tottenham allowed Liverpool to have more possession than them yesterday, but they were deadly on the counter attack.

Spurs took the lead early on through Harry Kane, and they doubled their advantage when Heung-Min Son hit the back of the net.

Liverpool did manage to pull one back through Mohamed Salah, but it was not enough to stop a ruthless Tottenham side.

Dele Alli and Kane scored again, as Spurs asserted their superiority on Klopp’s men.

Tottenham have now moved level on points with second-placed Manchester United, and look to be going from strength to strength this term.
