Thierry Henry and Micah Richards were left baffled by one-time Tottenham Hotspur target Marc Cucurella in the Champions League as Chelsea had another night to forget.

Both Tottenham and Chelsea have had their issues this season, but it can’t top what those at Stamford Bridge are producing.

On Tuesday night, Chelsea were knocked out of the Champions League by Real Madrid and Marc Cucurella was, once again, a talking point for the wrong reasons.

The 24-year-old joined Chelsea in the summer for a £60 million transfer fee (Sky Sports) – at the time, Chelsea weren’t the only interested parties because Tottenham and Manchester City were also keen.

Those two teams have had a lucky break, in that regard, because, Cucurella hasn’t had a great time in West London and he has come under serious fire.

That was proven by his latest performance, with Micah Richards and Thierry Henry unsure why the former Brighton man decided to press Real Madrid’s centre-back yesterday from his left-back spot, as they told CBS Sports on Paramount+ (18/04/23 at 10:15 pm).

“You see Cucurella, where is he going?” asked Ricards. “He went all the way (from his left-back spot in his own half) to press the Real Madrid centre-half, then Chalobah is left exposed here. Thierry, what should he be doing here?”

Henry responded: “Well, delay. Don’t go. You are never winning that race. I don’t know why he is going there. That’s a double mistake.

“First, Cucurella, where are you going?! At that particular moment, you have to delay. You can’t dive in there.”

IT’S ALL GOING WRONG AT CHELSEA

To spend that amount of money, but to be sitting 11th in the Premier League table and with no trophies to your name is beyond embarrassing.

It could even be argued that the players brought in are of high, high quality. It’s just a case that so many have been brought in together at such short notice and it has created confusion all over the shop.

This is a prime example of how not to run a club because, as of this moment, Todd Boehly, has done a comical job, but the players have to also take responsibility.
