It took a few months, but Thiago Alcantara is finally a Liverpool player.
The Reds announced on Friday night that they had signed the former Barcelona midfielder on a four-year contract.
Liverpool agreed a £20 million deal with Bayern Munich for the 29-year-old but, according to The Mirror, they’re only paying £5 million up front.
You need only have seen the celebrations at Melwood on Friday, when Thiago’s blacked-out vehicle passed through the gates, to know that the fans are delighted with this transfer.
And so too is the player’s wife, Julia.
She posted a heartfelt message on Instagram on Saturday about her husband’s move to Anfield:
The Spain international brings with him a wealth of experience and pedigree.
Just last season Thiago won a treble with Bayern – which includes a Champions League title – and he should be a cracking addition to Jurgen Klopp’s side.
The player is eligible to face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge this evening but it remains to be seen whether he has made the trip to West London.
