Roberto Firmino reminded Liverpool fans of his quality on Thursday night.

The Brazilian scored a very rare brace in a 4-2 win away to Manchester United as Liverpool boosted their Champions League qualification hopes.

Firmino, a £29 million signing in 2015, occasionally gets criticism for his lack of goals.

Before the Old Trafford win, the former Hoffenheim star had only managed six in all competitions this season.

But his quality is undeniable and Thiago Alcantara has intimated that Firmino’s selfless style is a big reason behind his goal tally, claiming he’s the most ‘unselfish’ striker he’s ever seen.

He told Liverpool’s official website: “He’s a very important player for us. I think he’s the least-selfish striker I’ve ever seen in my life because he always tries to reach the best option for his teammates, but also he’s a great goalscorer.”

Thiago is right – Firmino is ridiculously unselfish, but that doesn’t always help Liverpool.

Remember, Jurgen Klopp’s side are four points adrift of a Champions League qualification place with three Premier League games to go, despite winning the title 10 months ago.

It’s no secret that the Reds have struggled when it comes to conceding goals this season, but scoring them at the other end is also a problem and when your number nine only has netted eight times during the whole campaign, it makes you wonder how much better Liverpool would be doing with a selfish striker.

Mohamed Salah is as selfish as they come, but nobody – except possibly Sadio Mane – actually cares because he’ll get you 30 goals a season.
