Newcastle United are reportedly keen on signing the Brazilian ace.
According to French media outlet Le Sport 10, Newcastle are lining up a summer swoop for Lille midfield ace Thiago Maia, and it would be exactly the kind of signing that should get Newcastle fans excited.
Rafa Benitez has a lot of work to do at St James’ Park this summer, if he is to continue the good work that he has already done on Tyneside, and the addition of a top class central midfielder would be a great place to start.
Maia, 21, is a deep-lying central midfield player, and possesses wonderful technical ability, as well as being an excellent reader of the game.
He enjoyed a fine campaign in France with Lille last season, and was a key figure behind his side’s ability to avoid the drop.
The Brazilian is an excellent passer of the football, and his skillset enables him to control the tempo of the game from the middle of the park.
The Santos academy graduate has the ability to go on and become one of the world’s best players, and bringing him to Newcastle could very well represent the beginning of a new are of success for the Magpies.
According to Transfer Market, he is only valued at £3.6 million, and if the Toon somehow manage to sign him for a fee in that region, it could turn out to be a real coup for Newcastle.
It is unclear as to whether Lille will entertain the idea of selling Maia, however, and considering the fact that he is tied down to a contract with the French club until the summer of 2022, they still hold all of the cards.
