‘Thiago in his back pocket’: Some Arsenal fans want attacker signed after CL display

Arsenal fans on Twitter are dreaming at the thought of signing Houssem Aouar after he produced an impressive performance despite Lyon getting knocked out of the Champions League last night.

Aouar couldn’t stop the free-scoring Bayern Munich cause havoc once again as the unstoppable German outfit put three past the Ligue 1 side on their way to the finals.

In the first half, Aouar was pretty quiet by his standards, but that was understandable because Bayern were running amok all over Lyon’s defence – just like they did with Barcelona.

But Lyon were more resolute, and during the second period, their playmaker came alive and he was one of the best players on the pitch, as a number of Arsenal fans were impressed with what they were seeing from the 22-year-old.

French outlet L’Equipe did previously claim that Arsenal would like to sign the youngster and they had a bid involving Matteo Guendouzi in a swap deal turned down by the club.

There’s no doubt that Aouar would suit Arsenal down to the bone. His ability to work in tight space and glide past people would work in a Mikel Arteta side that is trying to rebuild itself once again after years and years of decline.

But the question has to be asked whether Arsenal could afford such a player because it would be a surprise if Lyon didn’t command such a big fee for one of their star men.

The problem from Lyon’s perspective is that they won’t be playing any European football next season, so keeping their best players will prove to be difficult during these coming months, so that is some hope for the Gunners, but it’s perhaps the only hope they are going to get.

Nonetheless, despite playing against a highly-skilled Bayern midfield that included the technically gifted artist, Thiago, Lyon’s own gifted midfielder, Aouar, held his own on such a big stage.
