Rangers take on Celtic at Ibrox this weekend, and Graeme Souness has looked ahead to the Old Firm derby.

Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha is seen prior to the Betfred League Cup Quarter Final at Firhill Stadium on September 19, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Pundit and former Rangers hero Graeme Souness has told Sky Sports that he thinks Rangers are showing signs of coming together under Pedro Caixinha.

The Gers take on Celtic in the first Old Firm derby of the season on Saturday, with manager Pedro Caixinha facing his biggest challenge since his Ibrox revolution over the summer.

Caixinha not only brought in 11 new signings, including Bruno Alves, Ryan Jack, Graham Dorrans, Daniel Candeias, Alfreod Morelos and Eduardo Herrera, but also allowed a number of players to leave Ibrox.

Clint Hill, Philippe Senderos, Andy Halliday, Matt Crooks, Harry Forrester, Barrie McKay, Michael O’Halloran, Joe Dodoo, Joe Garner and Martyn Waghorn were among the players to be moved on this summer, and results so far has been solid if unspectacular.

A general view of Ibrox Stadium is seen ahead of the EURO 2016 Qualifier match between Scotland and Georgia at Ibrox Stadium on October 11, 2014 in Glasgow, Scotland.

With three wins, two draws and a defeat from six league games, Rangers sit third in the Scottish Premiership table, and will be hoping to prove that they have closed the gap to Celtic after a huge summer overhaul.

The Bhoys already sit five points clear of Rangers in the league table, and they will be hoping to repeat their 5-1 win from their last trip to Ibrox in April.

Now, pundit and Rangers legend Graeme Souness has told Sky Sports that he wants Rangers to do themselves justice this weekend, and believes that they have made improvements and shown signs of progression after Caixinha’s changes.

Souness wants a strong Old Firm as Celtic can just win the league at a canter right now, and that leaves Rangers needing to put in a strong performance this weekend.

“I just hope Rangers do themselves justice at the weekend and win it,” said Souness. “They’ve made improvements this year, signed a lot of new players, showing signs that they’re coming together.”

“They need a strong Old Firm up there, simply because Celtic couldn’t sell their best players if there was a strong Rangers. Right now they can sell their best players knowing they’ll still swan off to win the league,” he added.
