Speaking on the Transfer Window Podcast, Duncan Castles has made a claim about Newcastle and Bruno Guimaraes.
The Brazilian midfielder joined Newcastle in the Magpies’ biggest deal of the January transfer window, and while excitement is palpable about Guimaraes, there are worries within the club about the former Lyon man.
Indeed, Castles claims that some within Newcastle are concerned that Guimaraes will not be able to adapt to the Premier League quickly enough in order to make an impact this season.

The journalist shares what he’s heard from some within Newcastle about Guimaraes.
“Their biggest spend was on Bruno Guimaraes, an initial €42.5m there. They found a club that was willing to just take the money and let the player go who they think can make a long-term difference,’ Castles said.
“But the brief from within the club is that they’re not sure he’ll be able to adapt quickly enough to the Premier League this season, and what they need are immediate players to come in and improve things.”

As Castles says, what Newcastle need right now are players who will come in and make an immediate impact in their battle against relegation, but if Guimaraes needs a bedding-in period, what use will he be?
Of course, he may be able to hit the ground running, but if those within Newcastle are already worried about the midfielder, the signs aren’t promising.
