Pundit and former Celtic midfielder Roy Keane has told ITV’s Champions League Highlights Show that he thinks Celtic simply aren’t learning any lessons in the Champions League.

After recovering from their 5-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain by beating Anderlecht 3-0 in their last Champions League outing, Celtic were hoping for a positive result at Bayern – but they were left disappointing.

Joshua Kimmich’s cross found an unmarked Robert Lewandowski, and whilst Craig Gordon made a stunning save, Thomas Muller followed in to score the opener for the Bundesliga giants.

Kimmich then headed home Kingsley Coman’s cross to make it 2-0 before the half hour mark, and Mats Hummels nodded Arjen Robben’s corner into the net to seal a 3-0 victory.

The players line-up together prior to the Champions League group B match between FC Bayern Munich and Celtic Glasgow in Munich, southern Germany, on October 18, 2017.

The result leaves Celtic third in their group with three points from three games, and with Bayern and Paris Saint-Germain leading the way for a knockout spot, Celtic look to be the favourites for a Europa League place.

Many expected Brendan Rodgers’ side to lose at the Allianz Arena, but the soft nature of the three goals will be a real source of frustration for the Celtic boss as he looks to re-establish the club in Europe.

Now, pundit and former Celtic midfielder Roy Keane has told ITV’s Champions League Highlights Show that it was a tough night for the Bhoys, and he was disappointed with the ball-watching and lack of concentration from Celtic’s players in such a big games, claiming they were lucky it was only 3-0.

Keane added that whilst people talk about Celtic learning in Europe, he doesn’t think the Bhoys are showing any signs of growing or developing, suggesting that they continue to make the exact same mistakes when faced with top competition.

“It was a tough night for Celtic obviously, it was always going to be a difficult game for them,” said Keane. “It wasn’t just the goals they conceded, but the chances they gave up, players ball-watching and lacking concentration, not smelling danger, and they gave up some easy chances – they were lucky it was only three.”

“You talk about them learning, but from looking at Celtic over the last one or two years in Europe, they’re not learning. They’re making exactly the same mistakes against top opposition. To me, they’re not learning,” he added.
