Aston Villa teenager Louie Barry has defended Arsenal goalkeeper Alex Runarsson on his Instagram story after he deleted his Twitter account following his side’s defeat to Manchester City on Tuesday.
It was an unfortunate game for the Arsenal 25-year-old, especially for Man City’s free-kick goal because he palmed Riyad Mahrez’s free-kick straight into the back of his own net.
Aston Villa’s rising star was responding to a post from the Sun where they first wrote a story about Runarsson’s mistake from the free-kick and he stated on his Instagram story ‘this isn’t a story they are just fuelling the fire’.
Barry seemingly took exception to the newspaper outlet writing an article solely based on the mistake from the Arsenal summer signing.
The Villa man then responded to another post from the same outlet where they wrote a story about Runarsson deleting his Twitter account and responded with this message:
‘These newspaper sources are really the result of most players doing this nowadays’.
One thing is for sure, Runarsson has got the backing of his manager, Mikel Arteta, who was quick to defend the player after the game.
There’s no doubt that his morale will be down and he needs a strong changing room to ensure that his confidence is back on the up during these coming days.
Either way, for Arsenal as a whole, they will be hoping their prayers are listened to over Christmas because they will be looking forward to this year to be over.
