In recent years, Liverpool have been one of the most well-oiled footballing machines in world football.
From Michael Edwards to Alex Inglethorpe to Billy Hogan to Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool’s backroom has been filled with world-class operators.
However, there’s been one area that has seemingly been lacking in recent years – the medical department.
Liverpool’s 2020/21 season was utterly derailed by injuries, while the Carabao Cup and Champions League finals last season were marred by pre-match injuries for Thiago Alcantara.
The Reds need to sort out their medical department, and according to David Ornstein on The Overlap, they’re currently interviewing potential candidates for the role of the club doctor.

Liverpool working on it
Ornstein spoke about Liverpool hiring a new club doctor.
“The injury issues that Laurie points to I think is a really big story. They don’t have a club doctor, I think they’re interviewing for that position. Andreas Schlumberger is a trusted medic of Jurgen Klopp from their time together in Germany and he was with the German national team. He’s come in and gained a lot of power and authority, and it wouldn’t surprise you if he started to shape a medical department there,” Ornstein said.
Positive step
This may not seem like the biggest thing Liverpool could do to change their fortunes at the moment, but it is a step in the right direction.
Indeed, the Reds have suffered a few too many injuries as of late, and getting a club doctor in would certainly help alleviate those issues.
The fact that Liverpool don’t currently have a club doctor is a bit baffling, and hopefully their injury record does improve after this appointment.
Liverpool could certainly do with having more precautions in place to help their players avoid fitness or injury issues, and hiring a new medic may be the answer to their problems.
