Speaking to Off The Ball, Mark Lawrenson has been speaking about Liverpool’s ability to sell their fringe players for big money.

The Reds have been brilliant when it comes to selling off their wantaway players in recent years. They’ve received eight-figure fees for the likes of Jordon Ibe, Rhian Brewster and Dominic Solanke in recent years, and Lawrenson believes Nat Phillips could be the next fringe player sold for big money.

What’s been said?

The pundit gave his view on the 24-year-old.

“You get some players who come in, I mean Nat Phillips, he did really really well and he’s gone to Bournemouth on loan and they’ll sell him, and they’ll sell him for big money. This is something Arsene Wenger used to do, he’d bring promising players through, play them in the first-team before deciding they weren’t at the level. Then people would come in to buy them and you can say ‘he’s played 15 games in the Premier League’ and hike up the price. Liverpool have locked onto that in the last few years and some of the sales have been outstanding,” Lawrenson said.

Same route

Phillips could be yet another fringe player sold for big money by Liverpool, and he could take the same route as two other former Reds.

Indeed, both Jordon Ibe and Dominic Solanke left Anfield for Bournemouth, and if the Cherries are promoted this season, don’t be surprised if Phillips’ loan is made into a permanent deal.

It will be interesting to see just how much Phillips costs if he leaves in the summer.
