Michael Dawson has claimed that Arsenal ‘would be in trouble’ if Alexandre Lacazette were to join Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang at Barcelona in the summer.
The stand-in Arsenal captain is out-of-contract in the summer and Dawson stated that he surely would have signed a new contract by now, as he told Sky Sports News (02/04/22 at 1:35 pm).
Lacazette only took the armband after Mikel Arteta stripped Aubameyang of that role before he could head to Barcelona during the January transfer window.
But since then, the Frenchman’s value to the Gunners has gone up a few notches, hence why they are leading the charge for fourth.
When it was put to Dawson by Sky presenter, Jeff Stelling, that Barcelona are looking at Lacazette (Le 10 Sport), he issued this response.
“Then they would be in trouble because they wouldn’t then have a centre-forward,” said Dawson. “They have to keep him.”
Ex-Palace striker, Clinton Morrison, added: “He could want to get back with his mate Aubameyang, it’s a good shout. He could go.”
Dawson on probably bringing Calvert-Lewin in for Laca: “If that happens, then you say ‘okay, we are giving ‘x, y and z’. So, you then look at Calvert-Lewin and say ‘we are going to spend that for the long-term’.
“Otherwise, he (Lacazette) would have had a new contract by now. There are nine games left.”

Even if Lacazette pens down a new contract, Arteta still needs to look for another number nine.
There is Eddie Nketiah, but he doesn’t provide what his skipper brings to the table.
The Hale-End academy product is more of a poacher, but either way, securing Champions League football is going to be key to who Arsenal can land during the summer transfer window.
Dusan Vlahovic was a player the north London club were looking at in the summer, secure a top-four in May, then players like that might just be attracted.
