Tony Adams told Stadium Astro that Liverpool will win the Premier League title next season.
But the Highbury legend thinks Liverpool need one more signing this summer – a forward – whereas, Dirk Kuyt thinks they need ‘a few signings’.
Given Liverpool’s drop from being champions last season to the injuries they have suffered during this campaign, it has been pretty game-changing.
And it will be interesting to see how those in the Anfield boardroom tackle the summer transfer window.
Kuyt made it clear that backup options are needed in defence and in midfield, whilst Adams thinks limited work should be done.
“In my opinion, they need a few signings,” said Kuyt. “We need some strength in defence. We need a central-defender backup.
“You see what the centre-backs (Phillips and Kabak) have done but they are still young players. So, you need cover there and in midfield, they need some quality as well. If Liverpool can do this then I am sure they will challenge for the title next season. But you need to challenge the players.”
Adams added: “They have a fantastic recruitment team up at Liverpool. I am a little bit more optimistic than Dirk. I think they need just maybe one. I think Gomez is a wonderful, wonderful defender. For England as well.
“For me, they will win the league next year. I think it’s incredibly difficult to retain titles. They’ll get all their energy back. They just need one more player I think. But I think they might need a little forward to mix things up.”

If Liverpool can get their injured star players back firing next season then it will be interesting to see what happens to those backup options.
The likes of Ozan Kabak, who is on-loan, and Nat Phillips have done well when called upon, so perhaps another defensive option isn’t needed.
But, of course, it’s not guaranteed that Joe Gomez and Virgil van Dijk will be ready for the new campaign given the long term injuries they have suffered.
