Darren Ambrose has backed David Moyes’ West Ham United to secure the transfer of Manchester United’s Harry Maguire before Friday’s deadline day.

The former midfielder thinks that a deal for Harry Maguire, to secure a move to West Ham United, ‘could be done’ and a ‘solution’ could yet be found.

Whilst Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag isn’t saying it in public, it seems as though they would be happy to receive a transfer fee for the England defender, so they can then use that to sign other targets.

Some would argue that Maguire could even be as low as fifth-choice at Old Trafford – he is yet to play a single minute this term, with Ambrose calling him a ‘talented player’, as he told The Transfer Show on Sky Sports.

With only days left before the 2023 summer transfer window slams shut, things could yet get crazier as clubs push the panic button as they make the final touches to their squads.

West Ham, who will be playing Europa League football this term, are in that boat, with Ambrose thinking that they could yet add to their backline.

“I think this could be done,” said Ambrose. “I think they will come up with a solution. Look, Manchester United don’t want to pay the full amount and West Ham say, ‘we are going to pay as much as we want’. £25 million or whatever it might be.

“So, Harry Maguire is sitting there comfortably. You have Guehi and Levi Colwill (pushing for England spots). All playing that similar role to Harry Maguire, the emergence of those talents as well, could force Harry Maguire to accept a little bit less.

“It is a surprise (that only West Ham want him). At £25 million, or whatever it may be. At that figure, I think it is a surprise. He is a talented player.”

Will Maguire earn England call?

Gareth Southgate will name England’s squad on Thursday for the upcoming internationals and all eyes will be on if Maguire is selected.

Heading into the 2022 Qatar World Cup, he played very little football, yet he still got picked by the England manager, who regardless of form or his club situation, has always selected him.

But given that he has hardly touched a ball this term, then it will be interesting to see what call he makes now, in truth, he is probably going to pick him because that’s what he does.
