Ian Wright has warned Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal that they can be caught by Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United in the race for the Premier League title after they secured EFL Cup glory at Wembley on Sunday.

The former Arsenal striker made it clear that Manchester United, who beat Newcastle United 2-0 in a pretty comfortable fashion, are ‘definitely’ in the race to become champions of England again because of their current mood, as he told the Kelly and Wrighty Show on Premier League Productions (27/02/23 at 2:35 pm).

That’s trophy number one in the bag for those at Old Trafford and, as things stand, they have every chance to win three more, including the Europa League and the FA Cup.

The most difficult one will be the title, and if the unlikely situation occurs and they are champions, then it would be a serious, serious triumph, even by Manchester United standards.

Of course, they need Arsenal to slip up, but they recently beat Leicester City at the weekend and they have a chance to extend that lead at the top when they lock horns against Everton on Wednesday night – their game in hand.

Either way, Ian Wright is seriously impressed by what Erik ten Hag is cooking and he warned Arsenal, as well as Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City, about what’s coming ahead.

“The way he (ten Hag) moves people around,” said Wright. “Even his substitutes, everyone comes on and makes a difference. The reason why the fans gave him the loudest cheers (after their EFL Cup win) is that he has come in and they have seen the change in what he is trying to do. Without the noise and he has done it slowly, slowly and slowly.

“Now look at Manchester United, they are ready to go, aren’t they?! They are definitely in the race.

“When you have to look at what Arsenal have to do with a young side. They have to stay up there and they have to keep winning – if Man United keep doing what they are doing with the momentum they have got, then they will be amongst it. They will catch people.”

ARSENAL AND MANCHESTER UNITED TURNING BACK THE CLOCK?

Not since the Arsene Wenger and Sir Alex Ferguson days have the fans of these two clubs been in such a buoyant and uplifting move.

There is a huge belief that what’s cooking is something special and either team can end their recent title drought.

Now, all of this is in Arsenal’s hands because, if they beat Everton on Wednesday night, then they go five points clear of Manchester City and 11 clear of ten Hag’s men, although, they will then have a game in hand of their own.
