Gary Neville refused to change his mind that Everton will be overachievers in the Premier League this season, as he told Sky Sports.

In August, the Sky pundit made that prediction about Rafa Benitez’s side, and despite their struggles, he reminded everyone that ‘we are only halfway through’ this current campaign.

There was a lot of limelight on Merseyside when the Toffees opted to bring Benitez to the club in the summer.

Some felt that it wasn’t going to last long and he was going to be out of the door in next to no time.

Whilst others felt that Benitez’s methodological ways is what Everton needed following Carlo Ancelotti’s surprise exit.

Neville was asked about his prediction about Everon from August, and despite Jamie Carragher asking ‘why’ he was sticking with his previous claim, he explained why he was refusing to change his mind.

“I still think Everton will finish strongly,” said Neville. “We are only halfway through.

“They have had a lot of injuries. They have had Calvert-Lewin out. Richarlison out. Doucoure out at times, so they will be alright.”

There have been more problems than positive moments for Everton this season and Benitez has had some stick come his way.

They are sitting in 15th place after 17 matches, although they have had injury problems and they didn’t spend much in the summer.

Added with that, their main striker, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who scored three goals from his opening three matches, hasn’t played since.

Any team that is missing their key striker or their best player would struggle in huge ways and that’s what Everton are currently going through.
