Speaking on the Here We Go Podcast, Fabrizio Romano has delivered an update on Liverpool’s hunt for a midfielder, claiming that they want to sign a player in the mould of Diogo Jota.

They don’t necessarily want someone with the same skillset as Jota, but they want a young hungry player who can challenge for a spot in the starting XI in the same way Jota has this season.

Romano also claimed that the rumours linking them with a move for Aaron Ramsey are baseless.

“Yes, a lot of rumours coming from Italy and England, but I can say that at the moment there is nothing,” Romano said about the Ramsey rumours.

“Liverpool are looking for a different player. They want to do something like they did for Diogo Jota. To find this kind of player, a young one, ready to fight for a place with good talent.

“Ramsey is in the last part of his career, so he’s a fantastic player, but there’s a lot of injuries. Juventus are ready to sell Aaron Ramsey this summer, but at the moment with Liverpool there is nothing and they are looking at different players. They have a list for the midfield, so let’s see what they decide.”

This is certainly a very interesting update.

It seems as though Liverpool aren’t going to be signing a recognised superstar this summer in the midfield, instead looking to unearth a gem who can compete for a place in the XI.

Who that player is remains to be seen, but with Michael Edwards in charge of transfers, you have to trust that he’ll get it right.
