Speaking on Last Word on Spurs, Sky Sports’ Dharmesh Sheth has shared what he knows about Spurs and their interest in Piero Hincapie.

The journalist says that Hincapie’s name is one that has been mentioned to him as Spurs look to add a left-footed defender in the summer.

Tottenham’s need for a left-footed centre-back is clear, as they currently have Clement Lenglet and Ben Davies, but Lenglet is only on loan until the end of the season, and Davies is a converted left-back.

Hincapie, a young and talented defender, could be the perfect addition to the squad.

However, Napoli could also be in for the Leverkusen ace if Kim Min-Jae leaves after his excellent debut season in Serie A which could result in a title win.

It’s worth noting that last summer, Spurs were in for Min-Jae but he went to Napoli instead, a move that now looks regretful for Tottenham.

Spurs rivalling Napoli for Hincapie

Sheth shared his information on this player.

“He is a left-footed central defender, every club wants one of those at the moment. I think Tottenham, that is one of the priorities come the summer. Piero Hincapie is one of the names that has been mentioned to me that they want to go for, but Napoli are interested in him as well. That will depend in Kim Min-Jae who is a fantastic centre-half, but he’s attracing interest from the Premier League now. If he were to get a move, Napoli would go all out for Hincapie,” Sheth said.

Great addition

Hincapie, has been a standout performer for Bayer Leverkusen this season, making 25 appearances in the Bundesliga and Europa League. The Colombian defender has been a key player for Leverkusen, helping them to solidify their defence since the arrival of Xabi Alonso as they regroup and look to push for Champions League qualification.

He is solid on the ball, and has a brilliant ability to read the game, which could make him an ideal fit for the Tottenham defence.

Tottenham’s pursuit of Hincapie is surely not only based on their present need for a left-footed center-back, but also his potential. With Hincapie they’d be getting a young player with a lot of potential and room to grow, and he could be a long-term star for the club.

This could be a brilliant addition for Spurs.
