Paul Merson has said on Sky Sports News (1:33pm, May 1, 2021) how the Arsenal and West Ham United owners are different.
The former Arsenal star, who now works as a pundit for Sky Sports, has praised West Ham co-chairmen David Gold and David Sullivan for going to games and facing criticism from the fans.
The Sky Sports pundit has pointed out that Arsenal owner Stan Kroenke does not attend games and lives in the USA, and that he does not seem to have a connection of any sorts with the North London outfit.
Merson said on Sky Sports News (1:33pm, May 1, 2021): “They live a million miles away. It’s not like they are massive football people and they love their club.
“It’s not like Mr Gold and Mr Sullivan. They turn up at West Ham every week whether they win, lose or draw, how bad it is, and they have to take all that stick like they did a few years. These live a million miles away.”
Paul Merson makes a good point
Not all West Ham fans are happy with Gold and Sullivan, especially for leaving the Boleyn Ground for London Stadium.
However, Merson does have a very good point. Kronke is based in the USA and Arsenal is just another business venture for him.
Gold and Sullivan are based in England, and they do go to games and have a bigger affinity with West Ham.
Of course, all clubs are businesses these days, but at least at West Ham, the people running it are close and have a better understanding of what the fans want.
Interestingly, West Ham are having a great season and could end up in the top four of the Premier League.
The only realistic way that Arsenal can play in the Champions League next season is if they win the Europa League.
