Speaking on the Here We Go Podcast, Fabrizio Romano has made a remarkable claim about Nottingham Forest.
The Tricky Trees surprised many in the summer transfer window as they ranked amongst the biggest spenders in Europe, but they attempted one incredibly ambitious transfer that didn’t come off.
Indeed, according to Romano, Forest made a call earlier this summer to ask about Paulo Dybala after his Juventus contract expired.
Dybala was courted by the likes of Tottenham and Arsenal this summer before eventually joining Roma, but Forest tried to enter the race for the Argentina international.
What’s been said?
Romano shared what he knows about Forest’s pursuit of Dybala.
“Nottingham Forest also tried for Andrea Pinamonti, the striker who is now at Sassuolo, he did very well with Empoli last season. Nottingham Forest also did a call for Paulo Dybala on a free, they tried. At one point it was going to be Inter but not closing, Roma wasn’t agreed, Napoli had no agreement, so they tried to explore this and asked about the situation of Dybala,” Romano said.
Keep an eye on Forest
This was Nottingham Forest’s first summer back in the Premier League and they’re already showing more ambition than most Premier League clubs would dream to.
Of course, a move for Dybala was never going to materialise. This is a player who was Juventus’ vice-captain last season, and the ‘top player‘ belongs at the elite level.
However, if Forest steady themselves in the Premier League, these types of deals may become more feasible, and with Evangelos Marinakis in charge, the money will be there to sign this type of player in future.
Forest may be struggling so far this term, but if they can get a foothold in the top-flight the Reds may be a team to keep an eye on in years to come.
