Jurgen Klopp is convinced that Leeds United will believe they can beat his Liverpool side ahead of Sunday’s Premier League meeting at Elland Road, as he told the club’s official website.
He’s probably right, too.
If there’s one thing Leeds have in spades under Marcelo Bielsa – well, apart from energy – it’s belief, a steely self-confidence in everything they do.
It is exactly that approach that saw the most exciting team in the division take four points off champions Manchester City last term, hammer Tottenham Hotspur and put four goals past Burnley and Fulham, five past West Brom and Newcastle.
With Liverpool potentially set to be without first-choice goalkeeper Alisson Becker and number one defensive midfielder Fabinho due to that whole, messy Brazil situation, Leeds will be more confident than ever of securing a famous win against one of Europe’s bona fide super clubs this weekend.
Can Leeds secure a famous win over Liverpool?
“In general, Marcelo Bielsa’s style and philosophy and how they defend is different, it’s man-marking over the whole pitch. So you have to know about it,” said Klopp, a firm admirer, like so many other Premier League bosses, of the way Leeds take the game to any opposition.
“Its special.

“Against Leeds, high intense, they go for it. (They) don’t have the points yet they want to have but they for sure think they have a good chance against us. But they didn’t play us yet this season.
“We are hopefully good, as good as we can (be), and then we are difficult to play. Always, when we are difficult to play, we have a chance to win – and that’s what we try.”
Leeds are yet to really get out of second gear so far this term, drawing with Everton and Burnley after that 5-1 thumping at the hands of old rivals Manchester United on the opening day of the season.
But you’d be a fool to write off Bielsa and co – especially after they gave Liverpool such a scare during a modern-day Premier League classic on the opening weekend of last term.
