Harry Redknapp told talkSPORT (03/08/21 at 7:40 am) that he has been told that Tottenham-bound, Cristian Romero, is a ‘very good player’.

Whilst the Tottenham transfer talk is being surrounded by Harry Kane, it seems as though they are closing in on the Atalanta defender’s signature after a bid was accepted.

If Spurs get the Romero deal over the line then it’s a significant step for Nuno Espirito Santo to repair a defence that has taken more hits than a seasoned boxer.

Redknapp highlighted Tottenham’s new Sporting Director, Fabio Paratici, and his need to target the Italian market, as he shared his thoughts on Romero.

“They have got a new Sporting Director that’s going to be responsible for bringing the players in,” said Redknapp.

“It looks like he’s going to go into the Italian market. That’s the market he probably knows.

“It looks like they are trying to get the boy from Atalanta, the centre-back, they tell me he’s a very good player. A few people have said that he’s ‘very good’.”

If Romero does move to North London then it’s going to be interesting to see who he partners at the back for and the formation Nuno pushes for.

During Tottenham’s decline in recent years, one area that has perhaps been the biggest problem has been their defence.

And with the experienced Toby Alderweireld now out of the door, it doesn’t exactly leave Nuno with trustworthy defenders to choose from.

Both Japhet Tanganga and Joe Rodon are rising stars, but inexperienced, whilst Eric Dier and Davinson Sanchez simply haven’t been up to scratch for many years now.
