Ashley Young told Lions’ Den that Tottenham-linked, Raheem Sterling, has been talked about ‘non-stop’.
A lot of that talk began before the start of Euro 2020, including suggestions that Manchester City are planning to use him as a makeweight to sign Tottenham striker, Harry Kane this summer, as reported by Fabrizo Romano.
Even though by Sterling’s standards, he had an indifferent campaign last season, there were question marks over his head going into Euro 2020.
But three goals during the tournament, including a brilliant assist yesterday during their 4-0 quarter-final win against Ukraine, has answered a lot of his critics.
Now at Aston Villa, Young hailed the ‘unbelievable’ tournament Sterling has had and how he is seemingly disrespected.
“For me, one main person in the team is Raz (Sterling),” said Young. “Raheem, you talk about people who have their doubters.
“For me, they talk about Raz non-stop. That he hasn’t had a good season this season.
“You look at, I want to say four, five or six seasons. How much he has been doing, especially the last two or three seasons how well he has been doing.
“Seriously, I don’t know how a person can even doubt him. Of course, everyone can have their opinions and you can have your critics. But he has been unbelievable this tournament.”

It would be a huge surprise if Sterling leaves Man City this summer, despite the rumours that were circulating before Euro 2020 started.
The £49 million player (BBC Sport) has once again shown his class and risen to the top, but it can become much, much better during this coming week.
England take on Denmark in the semi-finals of Euro 2020 next Wednesday and this is where the likes of Sterling, Harry Kane, Luke Shaw and Declan Rice, to name a few, can take their legacy to another level.
Gareth Southgate’s men are one win away from reaching their first final of a major tournament since 1966 and that in front of 60,000 Wembley fans.
