Bruno Fernandes has admitted after their 2-0 loss over the weekend that Manchester City are levels ahead of the Red Devils.
Speaking to BBC Sport post-match, the 38-cap Portuguese international revealed that United are nowhere near City in terms of quality. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side suffered another defeat at Old Trafford as the Cityzens won 2-0.
It was one of the easiest wins of the season for Pep Guardiola as United were unable to break down City’s organisation and system. The difference between the two sides was night and day. And for Fernandes, the Premier League champions are far ahead of United.
The former Sporting Lisbon star said after United’s 2-0 defeat to City: “If we want to be at the same level as them, we have to do more. They showed us we are not at the same level with them.”
Indeed, Fernandes’ incredible statement will no doubt anger United supporters. But there is plenty of truth in the Portuguese international’s comments on how different the two Manchester sides currently are.
City again look like strong favourites for the title. Whilst United, under Solskjaer, look likely to struggle for top-four. Even despite going big on signings in the summer and finishing second last season.
Fernandes’ comments highlight the quality City possess both on and off the pitch

A lot has been made of Solskjaer at United this season. With the Norwegian manager under the most pressure he has encountered so far at his tenure with the Manchester side since joining in 2018. And it again shows how much quality really separates City from their Red Devil rivals.
Guardiola is one of the best managers in the world at the helm of one of the most technically brilliant sides in world football. As for United, whilst their squad is impressive on paper, Solskjaer’s skills as a manager is letting them down. And Fernandes comments speak the truth of that.
