Jeff Stelling told Soccer Saturday on Sky Sports (06/03/21 at 5:00 pm) that the Rangers players shouldn’t have celebrated in view of the fans after their win against St Mirren.

Rangers were well aware before yesterday’s game that all they needed to do was secure three points and then hope Celtic fail to beat Dundee United today in order for them to be crowned champion this weekend.

Before the game, there was nothing but pure excitement and celebratory scenes outside of Ibrox, as Steven Gerrard testified.

But at the full-time whistle, some Rangers players ran towards the corner of the stand to celebrate in view of the supporters outside and popular Sky host Stelling made his feelings clear.

“Easy and comfortable win for Rangers,” said Stelling. “They have done their bit. They can win the Scottish Premiership title this week if they pick up maximum points against St Mirren and Celtic don’t against Dundee United.

“And they have done their bit with goals from Kent putting them in front, Morelos and then Hagi.

“They (the Rangers players) want to get off the field. I get the feeling they might be going to just do a little bit of celebration. I am not going to say they are going to see the fans because they shouldn’t be doing it.”

If Rangers are confirmed as champions today then it will be interesting to see if Celtic provide them with a guard of honour for the forthcoming Old Firm clash.

Equally, if those medals aren’t around the neck of the players today then it would be something if they clinched the title at Parkhead.

Either way, Celtic will be trying their utmost best to be as stubborn as possible and hoping to delay the inevitable as much as possible.
