West Ham surprisingly find themselves involved in a relegation battle this season despite spending £160m across the summer transfer window.
David Moyes has overseen just five wins from 23 Premier League outings so far as the east Londoners languish 18th in England’s top-flight, two points above the bottom of the table.
Now, Gary Cotterill of Sky Sports has travelled to West Ham’s Rush Green training ground, where he commented on the apparent mood of the players.
What’s the story?
Well, the Sky Sports reporter claimed that West Ham’s players looked “in pretty good spirits” as they attempt to avoid what would be a disastrous relegation to the Championship.
Cotterill said: “I’m getting a sense that they seemed to be in pretty good spirits when they were coming out, they seemed far from being down and defeated. They seemed up for the fight. That’s what David Moyes wants to see.”
There isn’t much to be positive about at the London Stadium right now, although this should at least provide West Ham fans with a crumb of comfort.
Not only does Moyes have to contend with a relegation battle, but he must also deal with European football on the schedule list.
West Ham will be involved in the UEFA Europa Conference League Round of 16, with the first leg commencing on Thursday 16th March.
The Hammers will find out their Round of 16 opponent when the draw takes place in Switzerland on Friday.
West Ham will be devoured if they go down
If the Irons do drop into the Championship, the squad turnover across the summer transfer window will be remarkable.

The likes of Gianluca Scamacca, Lucas Paqueta, Declan Rice, Pablo Fornals, Jarrod Bowen, Kurt Zouma, Alphonse Areola, Nayef Aguerd, Said Benrahma, Danny Ings and many more are far too good for England’s second tier, and will surely look to depart.
It simply cannot happen – if West Ham do suffer relegation, Mark Noble will have a seriously difficult job on his hands as Director of Football at the London Stadium.
