Speaking on the 433 Podcast, Arkadiusz Milik has been speaking about the trial he had with Tottenham Hotspur as a youngster.
The Polish striker is currently playing for Marseille, and it’s fair to say he’s having a decent season, netting 16 goals in all competitions for the Ligue 1 outfit.
However, things could have turned out rather differently for the Poland international.
Indeed, Milik had a trial with Spurs as a teenager, and while the London club offered him the chance to extend his stay at Tottenham, he opted to go back to Poland to continue his development under a coach he knew well.
What’s been said?
Milik shared what happened with Spurs.
“So, they said ‘we want you for another week’, but the coach said to me do you want to stay here or do you want to come back to us because you’re starting to play some games, and I decided to go back because the coach was everything to me at the time, so I didn’t want to leave because with him I knew he wanted the best for me. I knew we had a good team in the academy and one of the best teams in Poland at that moment,” Milik said.
“I knew that the people were taking care of me in Poland, and I didn’t know if Tottenham was the best move for me at that moment, I was thinking, Tottenham are a big name, they have a nice structure and everything, but I also had everything at Poland in my hometown, so I didn’t move in that moment.”

What could’ve been
We have to wonder what would have happened to Milik if he’d ended up at Spurs.
The Pole is exactly the same age as Harry Kane, so would he have broken into the Tottenham team ahead of the England captain? Or would he have struggled at Spurs and ultimately ended up worse off?
We’ll never know, but it is interesting to hear just how close Spurs came to landing the £30m striker as a teenager.
