Arsene Wenger put Richard Keys in his place after he questioned why Manchester City didn’t put ‘£140-150 million’ on the table to sign Tottenham striker, Harry Kane, in the summer, as he told beIN SPORTS.
The former Arsenal boss told the former Sky Sports presenter in a clear manner ‘Tottenham refused’ to sell and if Man City thought like him then ‘you will finish bankrupt’.
It was well-documented last summer that Manchester City wanted to sign Tottenham’s main men, with Pep Guardiola publicly coming out and expressing those dreams himself, as posted by Sky Sports.
In the end, the stubborn Spurs chairman, Daniel Levy, stood his ground and Kane stayed put in north London.
Even if Man City continue to add title after title to their armoury or score goal after goal, one thing that continues to get thrown about is they need another striker or a proper number nine.
Well, beIN SPORTS presenter Keys was on the trail yesterday, when Manchester City were in Champions League action against Atletico Madrid, as Wenger issued this blunt, yet measured response.
On whether Man City should have pushed for Kane: “I would say until now Grealish didn’t have the impact that you expected him to have at Manchester City. He’s not always a regular player.
“I would say they are, luckily, in a position where they can do both. They can spend £100 million on Grealish and £100 million more on Kane.
“Why didn’t they? The answer is really simple. Tottenham refused to sell Harry Kane.
On if Man City had put £140-150 on the table, then Levy would have said ‘yes’: “For me, personally. I think that Man City is a very well run club.
“Despite the fact that they have a lot of money. They put prices on everything. It’s very rationally managed. If they decided the maximum they will put in was £100m, then they did it. And I respect that. If they think like you (Richard Keys) think, then you finish bankrupt.”

Well, since the drama from the summer, which also saw Kane return late from his break and telling fans on Twitter ‘I will be staying this summer’, he still hasn’t signed a new contract.
That cloud will still hang over Hotspur Way, as fans will question what steps Kane will take in the summer.
Will he look to move on again? Will he wait to see how Spurs back Antonio Conte in the market? Has he already made the call to stay put, regardless?
Or will he be tempted away only if someone comes knocking for his services? Either way, there are more questions than answers regarding Kane, and in truth, only he can answer them.
