Speaking in an interview with WettFreunde, Fabrizio Romano has shared what he knows about Tottenham’s hunt for a new centre-back, and he’s been discussing Mohamed Simakan.
The Frenchman is reportedly a player that Spurs have been watching for a long time, and according to the Italian, the north London outift are big fans of the RB Leipzig defender.
Unfortunately, Romano was also quick to remind fans how difficult a deal could be, stating that Leipzig aren’t the easiest club in the world to negotiate with.
What’s been said?
Romano shared what he knows about Spurs and Simakan.
“That will depend on the price. I can tell you that one of the players you have been watching for a long time is RB Leipzig’s Mohamed Simakan. Another player they hold in high esteem is (Josko) Gvardiol. Those are two players they really like, but it depends on the price. We know how difficult it is to negotiate with Leipzig,” Romano said.
“In terms of top targets, Pau Torres was close to joining Tottenham a year ago. It could happen this summer depending on the negotiations with Giovani Lo Celso. But nothing concrete so far. We heard rumors about a potential move from Pau Torres a few days or weeks ago but nothing is in sight at the moment.”

Star in the making
Tottenham are in the market for an elite defender, and Simakan would certainly fit that billing.
RB Leipzig may have thought they would struggle after selling Ibrahima Konate and Dayot Upamecano, but Simakan has stepped up magnificently.
Leipzig had the joint-best defensive record in the Bundesliga, while Simakan has received huge praise over in Germany, with his former manager even comparing the youngster to Raphael Varane.
“We quickly realised that we were dealing with a phenomenon,” Simakan’s former Strasbourg coach Francois Keller told the Bundesliga website.
“He tore the place up. I said to myself that we had the new (Raphael) Varane. He was athletic, powerful, assured and calm.”
Simakan could be a star in the making, and if Tottenham land him he could be one of the signings of the summer.
