Speaking on Off The Ball, Ben Jacobs has shared some of the sentiment behind the scenes at Villa Park as Aston Villa search for a new manager.
The Midlands club have just sacked Steven Gerrard and his backroom staff, and when something like this happens, there’s usually a huge inquest at board level too.
However, according to Jacobs, the Villa board are still very much reading from the same hymn sheet with no changes upstairs planned anytime soon.
In fact, Jacobs says that Villa remain very ambitious at board level and they’re prepared to spend a lot of money backing the new manager, whoever that may be.
Villa to splash the cash
Jacobs says that Villa are ready to back their new gaffer.
“I think with Aston Villa the board are all on the same page, they’re very ambitious and rather than rolling executive heads they plan on spending a lot of money and being as ambitious as they can with Gerrard’s replacement in the hope of saving their own jobs in many respects, but I don’t think Villa plan on letting too many more, if anybody, at senior level go, it’s all being pinned on Gerrard,” Jacobs said.
Selling point
If you want to sell this football club to any prospective manager, that’s the way to do it.
Indeed, if there is big money to spend at a club like Villa, it will be hard for any manager to turn down an approach from the Midlands club.
This is a club with a fantastic history, and their owners are amongst the richest in the Premier League, so there is a chance to build something special here, but, of course, the Villans need the right man through the door if they’re going to do that.
The fact that Villa have money to spend should excite any manager that is currently on the club’s shortlist.
