‘They often’: Klopp shocked by what £46m Arsenal player did v Liverpool

Well, Liverpool’s Premier League title bid is very much back on after beating Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium last night.

Jurgen Klopp’s outfit recorded a massive 2-0 victory away to Arsenal and in doing so, moved one point behind Manchester City at the Premier League’s summit.

Liverpool bossed the second half after the Gunners dominated the opening 45 minutes, but goals from Diogo Jota and second-half substitution Roberto Firmino before the hour mark sealed the win.

However, it could and probably would’ve been different for the hosts had Alexandre Lacazette capitalised on a slack back pass from Thiago Alcantara just before Jota’s opener, but Alisson denied the Arsenal forward.

And although Klopp has reserved praise for his ‘sensational’ goalkeeper, the German manager admits that he was expecting Lacazette – a £46 million signing in 2017 [Goal] – to convert nonetheless.

He told Sky Sports: “It was a sensational save from Alisson [before the opener]. For me it was a goal, to be honest. With their quality, they often finish situations like that. Ali didn’t let it happen.”

Klopp is right,

Prior to kickoff, this Arsenal outfit had won five Premier League outings in succession, so for someone like Lacazette to find himself with a chance like that at 0-0, you’d expect the recent surge in confidence to help him punish Thiago.

Mikel Arteta has lacked a striker with a cutting edge all season long and with Tottenham winning last night to move three points behind their North London rivals in fourth, it could yet come back to bite them.
