Tottenham produced their best performance under Ange Postecoglou on Sunday when they thrashed Aston Villa 4-0.

It was a statement of intent from the Champions League-chasing side, with Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr playing in the middle of the park.

Even though Rodrigo Bentancur was on the bench, Ange Postecoglou opted for the former Brighton man and the rising 21-year-old.

Jay Botrhoyd pointed out how Pape Matar Sarr and Yves Bissouma ‘never played together’ before the start of this season, but are now surprising fans with their performances.

Added to that, the Tottenham duo have a ‘great understanding’ in the middle of the park, as he told The Football Show on Sky Sports.

With the likes of Rodrigo Bentancur, Oliver Skipp and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg unable to earn minutes, it just proves the depth in the squad now.

Of course, the icing on the cake will be securing fourth spot, which is in their hands now after that comprehensive win at Villa Park, but the London club will also have a say in the Premier League title race because they are yet to play the top three.

Pape Matar Sarr and Yves Bissouma

“At the beginning of the season when he started picking the team and you saw Bissouma and Sarr,” said Bothroyd.

“They never played together before that. They are playing now and it’s like they have a great understanding.

“Sarr gets forward, as you see there, the assist for Maddison’s first goal. That was a great ball. You need composure to do that and pick him out.

“But he has real energy and I think Bissouma and Sarr, they really complement each other.”

Ange Postecooglou working his magic

When Bissouma arrived at Spurs last season, under Antonio Conte, he joined with high expectations and hope that he would freshen up the midfield.

But the performances he produced at Brighton just weren’t showcasing themselves in Spurs colours.

Yet, fast forward to the present, and now fans are starting to see the 27-year-old at his very best.

Then there is Sarr, he was the one hooked off at half-time when Spurs were thrashed by Newcastle United at St James’ Park last season.

He looked lost in midfield back then, but it’s a completely different story now that he has a manager who is allowing him to express himself.
