Speaking on the Last Word On Spurs YouTube channel, Belgian journalist Kristof Terreur has been discussing Alessandro Bastoni and Tottenham’s hopes of signing the Italian.

The Inter Milan defender has long been touted as one of Tottenham’s top transfer targets heading into this summer transfer window, but it looked as though all hope was lost when Bastoni’s agent poured cold water on the speculation.

However, according to Terreur, Spurs are still hopeful that they can sign Bastoni as Inter Milan need to sell a number of players in order to balance the books at San Siro.

What’s been said?

Terreur spoke about Bastoni and Tottenham.

“You are still hopeful that he will come. I remember Lukaku a year ago saying he would definitely stay at Inter and a month later he was at Chelsea, so it’s never the end, but if I was Inter I wouldn’t sell Bastoni, I would sell some of the older players like De Vrij or Skriniar,” Terreur said.

“What I know because of my knowledge of the Lukaku files, they don’t have a lot of money, they can’t sign Lukaku back permanently, and even still to balance the books they need to sell players for €60-80m. Just like last summer they will sell one or two star players, but when you want to build for the future, you won’t sell the young, talented defenders.”

Can’t afford to wait

It seems as though Bastoni won’t be truly off the market until Inter can sell a few players, but sadly, Tottenham can’t afford to wait and see what happens.

Spurs have a list of other targets including Pau Torres and Ilya Zabarnyi, and if they don’t move quickly to secure one of the other players they’re chasing, they will end up losing out entirely.

Bastoni is one to keep an eye on, but Tottenham need to move quickly and make sure they can secure one of their centre-back targets, even if they’re second or third choice.
