Paul Merson has stated that Tottenham Hotspur ‘need to be careful’ with their so-called grumblings of Antonio Conte’s style and recent defeats in bigger games, as he told Soccer Saturday on Sky Sports (22/10/22 at 2:05 pm).
The Sky Sky Sports pundit pointed out that, despite losing to Arsenal and Manchester United this season, Spurs are still sitting third in the Premier League table.
Even when the north London are winning, some seem to question the manner in which those wins are put on the board compared to others in the league.

It has been known since day one that Conte isn’t a manager that plays possession-based football or he is someone that presses from the front in an aggressive manner.
But one thing that has been proven during his career is putting trophies in the cabinet, ask Juventus, Chelsea and Inter Milan.
That was pointed out by Merson when discussing Tottenham’s latest defeat, which came at the hands of Manchester United, where they were well and truly outplayed.
“But they are third in the league,” said Merson. “If you are a Tottenham fan, as I keep going back to, two massive football clubs will miss out on the top four.
“At the moment, they are in the top four. They have an elite manager. They need to be careful, Tottenham. They have one of the best managers in what world of football.
“When he won the league at Chelsea, it was keep it tight at the back, then go from there and it’s the same at Tottenham and why not? He will bring success at Tottenham.
“He knows Tottenham aren’t going to win the league – he’s a winner and he wouldn’t want to stay here too long if he’s not winning anything. He will think ‘what’s the point’. They can win a domestic trophy.”

TOTTENHAM LOOKING FOR THAT EXTRA GEAR
Tottenham fans won’t care about the style of play or the odd defeat against the Man United’s, as long as that trophy lands in their cabinet.
It’s going to be pretty tough to secure Champions League or Premier League glory, given the elite and proven teams they are competing against.
But a domestic trophy would be a big move forward and a big boost to this Tottenham side that doesn’t have many proven winners within its team.
Conte is a very demanding individual and it wouldn’t be a surprise if he will be asking for more players through the door because there are still another few levels this Spurs squad can go.
