Speaking on The Overlap, Jamie Carragher has been discussing Liverpool’s midfield and potential new additions in that area of the pitch.
The Reds have an absolutely immense squad right now. They narrowly missed out on winning the quadruple last year, and it’s almost impossible to poke any holes in this team.
However, if you were to pick out any area as a weakness it would be the midfield.
Now, we’re not saying that Thiago, Fabinho and Jordan Henderson aren’t fantastic players, but they’re all getting older and, especially in Thiago’s case, their fitness records are somewhat chequered.
The Reds could probably do with a new midfielder, and while there are reportedly no plans to make any more signings this summer, Carragher believes that the Merseyside club already have a marquee midfield signing lined up for next summer.
What’s been said?
Carragher spoke about Liverpool’s transfer strategy and stated that they’ll already have a midfield target lined up.
“Notoriously how Liverpool do their transfers under Klopp they wait for who they want. When they didn’t get van Dijk they waited until January. They don’t panic, when all of the centre-backs got injured they brought a couple of loans in because they couldn’t get who they wanted, which was Konate, and they waited.
“They’re not daft, the first choice midfield three now is quite old, but Liverpool are prepared to wait. They must have someone lined up next summer.”

Got to be Bellingham
Carragher may well be right about Liverpool having someone lined up for next summer, and we’ll go one step further and state that it’s probably Jude Bellingham.
It’s something of an open secret at this point that Liverpool will try to sign Bellingham next year. Fabrizio Romano has claimed that the club have already been making calls, while Jurgen Klopp has praised the Englishman and has spoken about a transfer.
Of course, whether or not the Reds can actually land Bellingham remains to be seen, but it wouldn’t surprise us one bit if he emerged as their top midfield target next summer.
