Speaking on the Ranks FC Podcast, Dean Jones has been discussing Tottenham’s interest in Mohammed Kudus.
The podcast was ranking the five players they believed to be most in need of a move before the end of the summer transfer window, and Kudus made the cut after a challenging spell at Ajax.
The 22-year-old is a remarkably talented player, but Ajax have been unable to settle on his best position, meaning that he’s often had to settle for a spot on the bench over in Amsterdam.
Tottenham have been linked with a move this month, but according to Jones, the north London club aren’t planning an imminent move for the Ghanaian.
However, the journalist did say that this may be one that Spurs revisit in January, depending on how his situation at Ajax evolves.
What’s been said?
Jones shared what he knows about Spurs and Kudus.
“Tottenham had a look at him, Tottenham were linked, but their overall view was to see this one out and to see what happens with him. They didn’t necessarily need him right now but they may revisit that if he’s still not playing in the new year because there’s value to be had in taking him on, but I’m not sure Tottenham really need him,” Jones said.
Worth a gamble
Kudus, at the age of 22 is exactly the type of player that Tottenham should be gambling on.
As a very versatile player, Kudus could provide cover in a number of positions for Antonio Conte’s side, and with his ability to play as a number 10, he would also give Spurs the option to switch to a 3-5-2 on occasion.
This is a player with a very high ceiling, and if Ajax don’t find a way to get the best out of him, he could be available for a bargain fee in January.
This may be a low risk, high reward signing for any club and this could be a wise move if Tottenham go for it.
