Speaking on the Here We Go Podcast, Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Liverpool made a bid for David Carmo on deadline day during Ozan Kabak’s medical.

Carmo had been linked with a move to Liverpool earlier in the month, and it seems as though he was on their radar as they put in an offer for him when Kabak’s loan move from Schalke looked to be in jeopardy.

“It wasn’t so easy a negotiation, there was a moment where the negotiation was really complicated during lunchtime when he was having medicals.” Romano said.

“The two clubs had a problem with the option and the obligation to buy, so the loan was not so sure. They were negotiating in this moment to have a plan B, they were in contact with Braga for Carmo, they made another bid, they made an important bid, a second one and an official one again to Braga, but the president of Braga turned them down again.”

Romano’s co-host then asked him to confirm that this was during Kabak’s medical, to which he responded:

“Yes, yes, while Kabak was having medicals they also wanted Carmo because they wanted two big options to be ready if some problem was coming with Schalke.”

This is certainly interesting to hear.

Luckily, Liverpool managed to iron out the issues with Kabak and get that signing over the line, but the fact that they wanted Carmo is certainly intriguing.

The Reds saw their offer for the 6 ft 5 defender turned down, so they would have been in a spot of bother if they hadn’t been able to sort the issues with Kabak, but luckily for Jurgen Klopp’s side, they managed to get the deal over the line.

Carmo may be a name to keep an eye on in the summer window as Liverpool clearly have an interest in him.
