Arsenal might have some competition from Chelsea for the signing of Sergino Dest, unfortunately for them.

Marca in Spain reported last week that Arsenal were tracking the Barcelona defender.

However, Fabrizio Romano revealed via his Here We Go podcast on Tuesday that Chelsea are also interested in the right-back.

According to the Italian journalist, the Blues ‘love’ Dest but nothing is concrete with regards to negotiations.

He said: “Sergino Dest. He’s a right-back but can play on the left. They love this player but as of now nothing is advanced with Barcelona. We’ll see what happens.”

Ominous

If Arsenal do really want the Barcelona star then, well, this is a tad ominous.

There’s no doubt that the Gunners look to be heading in the right direction under Mikel Arteta in North London.

However, Chelsea won a Champions League title six months ago and if it comes down to choosing the Emirates or Stamford Bridge, he may well punt for the latter.

Do Arsenal need him?

Well, this is where it gets interesting because honestly, no.

Arteta has a brilliant right-back in the form of Takehiro Tomiyasu and even on the other side, Kieran Tierney and Nuno Tavares are two brilliant left-back options.

If Arsenal do want Dest then Chelsea’s interest is bad news.

But the North Londoners may not even want him.
