Speaking to Off The Ball, John Giles has been discussing Sean Dyche’s start to life at Everton and the job he could’ve done at Leeds United.
The 51-year-old got off to the perfect start on Merseyside last weekend, leading his team to a 1-0 win against league leaders Arsenal.
Leeds are, of course, on the hunt for a new manager themselves, and sadly, they won’t be able to get hold of Dyche now.
Giles reckons that Dyche would’ve done a fantastic job at Leeds, but, as we all know, the Whites have now passed up on that opportunity.

Dyche could’ve been great
Giles spoke about Dyche and Leeds.
“Sean Dyche has gone to Everton and I think that’s a good thing for Everton. He was very badly done by at Burnley. He did a great job and they hardly spent any money. You could see it in their performance last week against Arsenal and I think he’ll do a really good job at Leeds, and had he gone to Leeds he’d have done a really good job at Leeds, but they lost him, they knew he was available and they now seem to be in for a foreign manager Leeds do,” Giles said.
Wouldn’t have been accepted
It feels strange to say this about Leeds United after years of being labelled ‘dirty Leeds’, but Dyche’s brand of football may not have been accepted at Elland Road.
Indeed, since the appointment of Marcelo Bielsa, Leeds fans have grown accustomed to seeing forward-thinking, attacking football, and, with all due respect, Dyche doesn’t bring that style to the table.
Dyche could’ve gotten results at Elland Road, there’s no doubt about that, but whether or not the fand would’ve accepted him is another matter.
