Speaking on the Talking Transfers Podcast, Graeme Bailey has been discussing Weston McKennie’s future.

The American midfielder has reportedly agreed to join Leeds United this month, but there are still murmurs about the likes of Arsenal and Aston Villa making late moves for the American.

According to Bailey, McKennie has been offered to a number of Premier League clubs, and while some have taken the bait, they’re not all on-board with the idea that McKennie would improve their team.

Chelsea aren’t keen, while Liverpool also aren’t interested, despite the fact that they have been noted as fans of McKennie in the past.

Liverpool not keen

Bailey shared what he knows about this player.

“It’s an interesting one. Amazingly, Chelsea aren’t interested at the moment, this is one player that they’re not really into. Liverpool have often been linked to McKennie and they liked him a lot, but it seems as though they’re not interested at this moment in time, but that may change. A lot of teams are looking at option number two. This could be one of those final day ones,” Bailey said.

Why not?

Despite years of links, Liverpool seemingly aren’t keen on McKennie right now, and that is absolutely baffling.

To be honest, this is the one moment in Liverpool’s recent history where they could really do with a player like McKennie. Their midfield is looking incredibly fragile at the moment, and McKennie, perhaps on a loan deal, would give them another dynamic in the middle of the park.

If Liverpool have in fact been offered the chance to bring McKennie in, they would be foolish to turn him down.
