Speaking on The Athletic Football Podcast, Phil Hay has been discussing Kalvin Phillips and his future at Leeds United.
The Yorkshire Pirlo is undoubtedly one of Leeds’ most talented players, and with the Whites currently staring relegation in the face, it should come as no shock that top clubs are circling around the midfielder.
Manchester United have been strongly linked, but according to Hay, the club are hopeful that they may be able to convince him to stay for one more season.
However, the journalist did state that the club are aware that Phillips will eventually want to play at a higher level.
What’s been said?
Hay spoke about Phililps’ future.
“With Kalvin Phillips it’s a little bit more difficult to tell and the club have been hopeful that they might pin him down with a new contract for one more year. They know that ultimately he’ll want to play at a higher level, but you’re right, if they go down it seems impossible to convince Phillips that it’s good for his prospects given that there’s a World Cup coming up later in the year,” Hay said.

Given it his all
Whether or not Phillips leaves the club this summer or not, he should be leaving with the well-wishes of every Leeds fan.
This is a player who has given his absolute all for this club. He could have left for Aston Villa in 2019, but he decided to stay loyal to his boyhood club and help them into the Premier League.
Sadly, Phillips has slowly but surely outgrown Leeds, and you can’t blame him for wanting to join a Champions League club at some point – after all, footballers’ careers are short.
Phillips has already carved out an incredible legacy at Leeds, and if he is to say goodbye at the end of the season, he’ll be leaving as a modern-day legend.
