Speaking on his YouTube channel, Alasdair Gold has been discussing Ryan Mason and his future managerial prospects at Tottenham.
The former midfielder took over at Spurs for a handful of games last April after the sacking of Jose Mourinho, and despite being just 29 years old at the time, he more than held his own in the dugout.
Mason has actually managed to stay at Spurs throughout the Nuno Espirito Santo and Antonio Conte eras, reportedly impressing Conte with his training sessions, and according to Gold, Spurs are hoping that he’ll be their manager one day.

Mason a future Spurs boss
Gold spoke about Spurs hoping Mason will manage them one day.
“I think they hope so, I do think they hope so. Let’s not forget he was Spurs manager at 29, the caretaker boss and I know people grumbled at the time, he did pretty well in the circumstances, the players respected him and his training sessions were supposed to be superb. Conte witnessed one of his training sessions when he first arrived and that sold him on Mason. I imagine Ryan Mason will want to be a manager sooner rather than later, I just wonder if he has to leave Spurs first to come back,” Gold said.
Has to learn elsewhere
As Gold says, Mason may have to cut his teeth elsewhere before he gets the Tottenham job.
It’s a similar scenario to Steven Gerrard and the Liverpool job. Everyone is well aware that this job should be his one day, but he still has to prove himself elsewhere before getting the nod.
Mason clearly has the favour of Daniel Levy, and the fact that he’s impressed Conte is a real testament to his ability as a coach, but he does need to garner more experience before he’s ready for this Spurs job.
Mason is certainly a name to keep in mind a few years down the line at Tottenham.
