Fabrizio Romano says that Tottenham Hotspur are still hoping that they can spring a ‘surprise’ and appoint a new manager before the European Championships, on Chris Cowlin’s Youtube channel.

When Romano was last on the channel, he stated that Tottenham would have a manager in place before Friday.

However, their move for Antonio Conte unexpectedly fell through last week, leaving Spurs’ plans in tatters.

Tottenham have effectively had to go back to square one, with no clear favourite emerging to take over in the North London side club yet.

But Romano says that Tottenham are still optimistic that they may be able to get a manager in place before the end of the week, in what would be a shock move.

“It was Conte, they were convinced to with Conte – but now the situation is complicated,” Romano said, when asked if he still believed Tottenham would have a manager before the European Championships.

“But let’s see! I still think they hope to make a surprise and appoint a manager in the next days and complete everything before the Euro’s but it’s getting complicated.

“To give you some confidence, trust me – Fabio Paratici is like a new signing. Daniel Levy did something great with Paratici. He is an amazing director.”

About time

Tottenham’s move for Fabio Paratici means that he may now have an influence over who Tottenham appoint.

It has now been 49 days since Spurs last had a permanent manager in place, with the pressure continuing to rise on Daniel Levy.

While there was initially an understanding that patience was a necessity as Tottenham have to get their decision right, the wait has now gone on for a ludicrous amount of time.

Spurs have been spurned by many of their top choices, and it leaves them in a poor position to plan for next season.

Tottenham are expected to make multiple changes, but as every day passes, their new manager is being given less and less time to asses his squad.
