Jamie Redknapp says Mikel Arteta should build his Arsenal side around Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe, while speaking live on Sky Sports.

Saka and Smith Rowe have been the two bright sparks for Arsenal in what has been a difficult season for the Gunners.

The young duo really have carried the fight for Arsenal at a time when some of their more experienced teammates have been out of form.

And Redknapp feels that Saka and Smith Rowe need to be firmly in Arteta’s plans for next season.

“They have to find some consistency next season,” Redknapp said. “I think players will be better. Partey will look a better player next year. Build a team around the likes of Smith Rowe and Saka and at least you have got a chance.

“But they need to buy some better players because you look at the strength in depth that Chelsea have compared to Arsenal and there’s no comparison.”

Arsenal are expected to have a busy summer as Arteta looks to mould his squad into a more competitive one.

The Spaniard has hinted on numerous occasions that changes are being planned.

That could increase the competition for Saka and Smith Rowe, but it would be a shock if either were not in Arsenal’s first-team on the opening day of next season.

Smith Rowe broke into the Gunners team at around the turn of the year and has injected far more creativity into their line-up.

Saka, meanwhile, is potentially in line to win Arsenal’s Player of the Season award after being consistently excellent all campaign.
