Speaking on the Transfer Window Podcast, Duncan Castles has claimed that Newcastle’s new owners have changed their view on the January transfer window.
The Magpies became one of the richest clubs in the world overnight when they were bought out by the Saudi Arabian investment fund.
However, despite their newfound wealth, the Magpies weren’t planning on spending big in January, but after a review of their playing squad and league position they’ve had to change tack.
What’s been said?
Castles shared how PIF now view the January window at Newcastle.
“They have realised that the club is in a worse state in football terms than they expected when they came in and that relegation is a real possibility given the poor quality of players they have and the position they’re in,” Castles said.
“How do they solve that? Obviously, the January window has become more important to them than they initially expected. Initially, the idea was to be conservative in the January window, they didn’t want to do deals then. They were conscious that it’s hard to do deals then, the prices can be high and availability is limited, but they now feel that they have to use the window to its maximum potential. I’m hearing talk of maybe five or six players coming in.”

Important
It sounds as though the January window may be important for the new regime at Newcastle.
Of course, it’s all about getting it right in the window. Yes, five or six new players should add a freshness to the squad, but in order to stay up, the Magpies need quality.
It remains to be seen who Newcastle bring in, but it sounds as though United may be embarking on the most exciting transfer window in their history.
