Tottenham Hotspur seem to always falter when the pressure is on, but are they now out of the title race?
Alan Shearer emphatically ruled Tottenham out of the title race, when speaking exclusively to the Sun, suggesting that their defeat to Manchester United was typical of the north London outfit.
Spurs currently sit in third spot in the Premier League table, but they are nine points adrift of league leaders Liverpool, and is seems as though their 58-year wait for a top flight title will continue to rumble on.
Mauricio Pochettino deserves great credit for the job that he has done at Tottenham, but he surely must start delivering trophies, if he is to be regarded as a truly elite manager.
Shearer doesn’t believe that this season will be their year, however.
The Newcastle legend spoke exclusively to the Sun, and suggested that Pochettino’s side seem to lack that little bit extra when they are playing under severe pressure:
“It was typical Tottenham on display, though. Just as against Wolves a few weeks back they lost as soon as they found themselves in the Prem race. That is six league defeats now and they have no chance of the title.”
Next up for Tottenham is a trip to Fulham on Sunday, before they travel to Chelsea for the second leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final clash, and Pochettino will be desperate for his team to bounce back immediately, following their disappointing defeat to Manchester United yesterday.
The Argentine must find a way of taking his side to that next level, but with limited funds at his disposal, that will certainly be easier said than done.
