Jack Wilshere has dismissed the claims that Arsenal will feel they are in a Premier League title battle if they beat Liverpool on Saturday, as he told talkSPORT.
But the 29-year-old stated that the Arsenal players and manager won’t be thinking that ‘we can’t win the league’, but their focus will be on the top four instead.
Arsenal are currently sitting fifth in the Premier League table and they could find themselves three points behind the leaders come Monday morning, if they beat the Reds and other results go their way.
Given that the Gunners aren’t in Europe, it has helped their cause in having more time to prepare for games.
But the aim will be to get back into the top-six this season and, at this moment in time, they are heading down the right road.
Wilshere is currently training with the Arsenal team and he backed them for a top-four finish, rather than securing that unlikely title or even challenging for it.
“No,” said Wilshere. “I don’t think Arsenal, the manager and the players won’t think ‘we can’t win the league’.
“But I don’t think there will be fans out there thinking ‘oh, Arsenal are going to win the league’. They will take each game as it comes.
“They have a chance of getting into the top four. They have no Europe. They have a whole week to prepare for games. Every week, they will feel that they can do something.
“I don’t know but I think they can get into the top four.”

The one big positive Arsenal can take out of what they have produced in recent weeks is their defence.
For one, an Arsenal team is starting to show some serious solidity and consistency at the back.
Five of the players at the back, including the defensive-minded midfielder and the keeper, are Arteta’s signings.
So, in that aspect, he is showcasing a strong eye in the transfer market and signs that he can build something for the future.
