Speaking on the Que Golazo Podcast, Fabrizio Romano has been discussing Arsenal’s summer transfer business and the acquisition of Gabriel Jesus.
The Brazilian striker was the Gunners’ marquee signing this summer, and while this deal seemed to be in the pipeline for months, according to Romano, this wasn’t an easy deal to complete.
The journalist says that many clubs were in for Jesus in the last transfer window, and he even claims that PSG had many conversations with the striker about a move to Paris.

PSG wanted Jesus
Romano spoke about the interest in the Arsenal striker and PSG’s approach.
“It was not easy to sign Gabriel Jesus because many clubs wanted him. Many clubs in England especially, he told Man City he wanted to try something new and clubs started to approach Jesus. I can mention Tottenham and Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain also had an interest in Jesus as a possibility, they had many conversations, but Arsenal were convinced about Jesus as their top priority and he wanted to be one of the most important players in his new team.” Romano said.
Not what he needed
While a move to PSG to play alongside the likes of Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi would be tempting for any player, this transfer wasn’t what Jesus was looking for this summer.
As Romano says, Jesus wanted to be an important player for whichever club he was joining this summer, and PSG simply couldn’t have given him those assurances.
Messi, Mbappe and Neymar are three of the best attackers on the planet, and they will be starting most weeks. Meanwhile, the likes of Hugo Ekitike would also provide stern competition in the attack.
Jesus wanted to join a team where he’d be a key player this summer, and picking Arsenal was probably one of the best decisions he could’ve made.
